Upcoming MPA Exhibits

Following upon the success of the MPA/ArtHaus Photo Essay show, where one of Melissa Vincent’s brilliant Faulkner series images sold for a record price, the MPA is preparing for two summer shows in Canada. The first will be at the Holcim Gallery in the brand new Milton Centre for the Arts, a regional arts centre near Toronto from June 24-July 13th, 2013. The second exhibit will be held at the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts (BMFA) in Collingwood, Ontario (a chalet/ski town about 90 minutes from Toronto) from August 1st through August 28th, 2013 with an opening reception on August 1st from 6:00pm-9:00pm (more info to come).

All winners and runners-up for each category in the 2012 Mobile Photography Awards will have their images printed and framed for the Canada exhibits. In addition, our founder Daniel Berman will choose 5-10 images from worthy entries to be a part of the shows. We will also feature a wall of images from our esteemed panel of judges. Nearly 60 images, ranging in size from 12×16 up to 24×30, will be custom printed on archival fine art exhibition fibre paper, double matted and gallery framed. CanvasPop will also generously provide ten canvasses for the exhibits.

The opening reception for the Holcim Gallery show will be June 27, 2013 from 7:00pm-10:00pm – it’s going to be a beautiful exhibit and if you’re in the Toronto area please come out and say hello! If you can’t make the opening, the show will run for three weeks through the 13th of July, 2013. (Pssst, look for more MPA sponsored shows at the Holcim Gallery early next year.)

Dilshad Corleone: a Mobile Photography Passion

Our friend Dilshad Corleone, aka The Italian Brother, shared this video with us about his mobile photography journey to Barcelona.

He was invited by Car Phone Warehouse to show off his photo chops with his phone while touring the Catalonian capital. The following video is the result of three days of filming. Have a look while Dilshad reveals his story and his beautiful images.

Who is Dilshad Corleone? Well, here he is in his own words and video…

I am Dilshad and I am a Mobile Photographer.

If I see something that makes me feel as if I were in the middle of an emotional-earthquake, I just take my iPhone out… and that happens a lot recently.

I am fond of having my black and white street images look as if they were stuffed in an old shoebox for the last 30 years. Or that you looked down on the street and found an image that 100 people just stepped-on. I very much try to bring an analog feel to my digital images. I love the grunge, the dirt, and the grit. I love the unspoken London, the untold London, with heavily blurred background. Men with big, long beards and hats, characteristic and peculiar faces. I see, I shoot and I go. It is difficult to analyse the why behind my subjects, or to describe what are my favourite subjects. It is very much like when you fall in love and you feel the butterflies, yes, that is exactly how I feel when I see something that I want to shoot. Iphoneography and Street-photography has given me the power to tell my stories, what I see and what touches me!

With Mobile Photography you can immediately tell a story, You see something, you shoot and you upload it, and the world knows about it, immediacy is the word and it’s all about the community. I would never be able to do what I do if I were to go out with a huge camera. Mobile Photography allows me to go in stealth (not always…), to capture real candid movements, expressions, gestures and so much more! I can tell my stories, the stories of my subjects with my images. I remember once standing at a bus-stop, I saw a girl shouting and then fiercely slapping her “friend”, I was there… she did not notice anything… Her photo, will always remind me of that moment, Priceless!

If you feel inspired after watching this video, then there are prizes to be had! Just follow the instructions on Car Phone Warehouse.
